Firetower
Fire towers in the Adirondack wilderness are an apt symbol of our place in the natural world, and how we perceive and understand that place. It is often conflicted, fractured, and refracted through many lenses.
Culture Construct
I now live part of my life in a place that has been formed by the idea and ideal of human achievement and culture yet bedeviled by human frailty, limits and their unintended consequences.
Nature Construct
I live part of my life in a place that is unique both in conception and in fact, the Adirondack Park. It is a place that represents and tests our notion of wilderness. It is a place set in geologic time, made of the oldest rock on the planet, overlayed with 19th century ideal of a forever wild preserve and set against the anthropocene reality of the 21st century. My immersion in this place provides both opportunity and challenge to examine idea against reality.

Upper Works
As I reflect on sites like the Upper Works in the Adirondack Mountains, a ruin of an ill fated iron operation, it is a compelling memento mori and a strangely comforting reminder of our place in nature.
Ghost Herd
"The inhospitable places of the contemporary world—brownfields, landfills, abandoned neighborhoods—are the work of human hands, but they too are natural landscapes with a revelatory power all their own."

Sloop Island
Sloop Island sits off Charlotte Harbor in Lake Champlain. It inspires speculation about the desolation of the Island and what lies beneath it's waters.
Etown Iphone
Somehow filtering the aged and ageless scapes of E'town through the means and media of the moment seems fitting and interesting.
Collaborations with Nature
We are not the lone makers and shapers. We are not out of eden but of an eden shaped by the entropic force of the universe.
ADK Panos
Panoramas gathered on land, lake, and mountain in the Adirondack region of upstate New York. These are the result of a probably futile attempt to express my place in this vast environment. Click for zoomable images.
Idem tone poem
These graceful artifacts of the guilded age are iconic of our shaping of the forces of our environment. This class of craft were commissioned by the Vanderbilts for use in the specific conditions of this particular lake. https://youtu.be/ds8p5Q1wleI
